Sector

Grocery and convenience

The highest label counts of any sector, repriced weekly, with promotions that have to start at midnight and stop on time. Half the estate is chilled or frozen, which is where standard fixtures fail first.

What is different here

Thousands of facings, changing every week

A single convenience store carries three to five thousand facings; a full-size supermarket carries many times that. Repricing on paper means printing, cutting, walking every aisle and clipping each ticket in — and the shelf disagrees with the till for as long as that takes. Grocery is where the arithmetic on electronic shelf labels stops being marginal.

Label mix

Four formats carry a grocery estate

Specified against the product and the bay, not the store. All of these run on one platform and one price file.

  • Nebular-2132.13"

High-density ambient shelf edge where facings are tight — the volume label on most grocery estates.

  • Nebular-2662.66"

The workhorse. Price, unit price, promotional block and barcode with room to breathe.

  • Nebular-266F2.66" freezer

Blue-cased freezer variant, rated to −25 °C for frozen wells and doors.

  • Nebular-5835.83"

Category headers, fresh counters and multi-page product information.

Cold, wet and cleaned every night

Chilled and frozen

Dairy, frozen and beverage bays need cabinet-rated holders and freezer-variant labels. Retrofitting the cold bays twice is the most common mistake we see.

Wash-down

Meat, fish and produce bays are cleaned hard. Fixings have to survive a routine rather than be refitted after one.

Unit pricing

Irish price-display rules mean unit price sits alongside the retail price. That drives the format choice more than shelf width does.

Midnight promotions

Campaigns that start and end to the minute, across every store at once, without anyone on the floor.

What changes in the first month

Typical order of impact for a grocery and convenience estate moving from paper to a digital shelf edge.

  • Weekly repriceBecomes a scheduled push, not a print run
  • Promotional startsLive at midnight across every store at once
  • Audit mismatchesClose out, because shelf and till read one file
  • Facing-up walksReplaced by pusher trays and gravity feed
  • Print and laminateStops being a line in the store budget

The other side of the shelf

Off the shelf edge

Pusher trays and gravity feed keep chilled bays facing up without a walk-round, and promotional FSDUs handle the seasonal peaks. Both come from the same team that fits the labels, so a range reset is one visit rather than three.
